Beto Fame is a London-based painter, born in the northern zone of Rio de Janeiro. His work emerges from the experience of continuous displacement, where a sense of belonging is never given but remains in constant flux. It is within this terrain that he examines how space is constructed in the contemporary world, not as something fixed, but as a condition under negotiation.
His paintings do not depict real landscapes. Instead, they are built from fragments of architecture, vegetation and memory, brought together to form images that feel at once familiar and strange. This layering reflects the way we live today, surrounded by overlapping references, information and images all at once.
Trained in Architecture and Fine Arts at UFRJ, and with extensive experience in mural work in Rio de Janeiro, Beto has developed a direct relationship with urban space. His work suggests that space is not neutral, but shaped by invisible rules and by both explicit and implicit boundaries that determine who is allowed to occupy, move through and remain.
Collage appears not merely as a technique, but as a structure of thought. Through it, different layers coexist without resolution, retaining their tensions. His paintings do not seek to resolve these frictions; instead, they sustain a state of instability, opening up a space where looking becomes an act of negotiating meaning.
